Memorial Day 2008

What a beautiful day!! 80 Degrees and sunny, couldn't have asked for anything more. Dave
Taylor was the Parade secratary and again did a great job planning this years parade. A
memorial service was conducted at Park Ave and Bridge St. Among those attending were the
Two Grand Marshals State Rep. Jerry Nailor and Veteran Ed Birch. Ed also read an impeccable
version of the poem "Flanders Fields". We were also joined by The honorable mayor D.J. Landis,
Borough Council President Jack Murray and many Borough Council members. Speeches were
given by myself and Charlie Allen of the VFW. Special thanks to West Fairview American Legion
Color Guard, West Shore Amvets Honor Guard, and Cedar Cliff JROTC who all participated in
the ceremony. Father and Son                           provided a heart wrenching performance of taps.
Our SAL provided sound and support and our Auxiliary provided flags along Bridge Street as well
as 300 sandwiches and refreshments at the end of the parade route at Our Veterans Memorial
Gazebo in New Cumberland Boro Park. After the long march, the refreshments were greatly
appreciated by all!

WHTM Channel 27 was on hand to do the feature news story on our parade and interviewed our
own Ed Birch and Irv Potteiger. They repesented us very well. Thank you gentlemen!

Thank you to all who helped out. You all always go above and beyond the call of duty and I am
forever gratefull to have the best members of any Legion in the world!!!
God Bless you all , and God Bless America
